Foundation flatwork generally refers to slabs on grade — garage floors, shop slabs, small additions — that carry structural load but are not part of a full below-grade foundation system. Full foundations involve footings and stem walls engineered for the structure above. We handle flatwork and structural slab work; we will tell you if your project needs an engineer involved.

Rain and temperature swings during the curing period can weaken the surface or slow strength gain if the fresh concrete is not protected. We schedule structural pours around weather windows and use curing protection appropriate to Portland Metro's conditions rather than assuming ideal drying weather like a contractor might in a drier state.

A standard garage floor is poured at a minimum of 4 inches on a compacted base. If you plan to store heavy equipment, a vehicle lift, or a workshop with industrial machinery, we typically recommend a thicker pour with additional reinforcement to handle the concentrated loads.
